This plot was located along the shoreline, at the base of the trail next to the thrust fault. We chose this plot because it was on a very different substrate and landscape than the surrounding areas.
The trees on this plot were weathered, but hardy trees; they seemed to be growing fairly well, despite the rocky substrate. Because the plot is right on the lake shore, these trees are more susceptible to flooding and wind damage than those on other plots, but their limbs were mostly (if not completely) intact. The species found on this plot, especially green ash and red maple, are water tolerant, bottomland species.
