This plot was done as we came around near the field again, with early to mid-successional species prevalent in the mix. This section of forest was definitely mixed; plenty of hardwoods and softwoods, sometimes in pockets, sometimes interspersed. Many of the trees were dying or of poorer quality that our previous plots; though the pine trees we had were of good form, the red maple was mostly dead, and there was lots of standing woody debris. We tried to get a plot that showed this, but we ended up with mostly good, tall pines. As we said before, getting a good species mix indicative of the surrounding plots was difficult because our plots were so small.
